33-Word Trifecta Challenge: The Day I Answered Some Emergency Room Questions

Hello Dear Readers.  The Weekend Trifecta 33-word writing challenge is to write exactly 33 words in first person narrative.

The Day I Answered Some Emergency Room Questions

“Name?”

“Irene,” I said.

“Last name?”

“Iver,” I responded.

“Problem?”

“Needle.” I stated.

“Needle?”

“In my eye.” I explained.

“How?”

“Sewing eyelets.” I answered.

Einstein!!”

“What?” I demanded.

“Nothing. Hurt?”

“AY!-yi!-yi!”  I answered.

LInda Vernon humor, picture of woman with patch over her eye.

I, Irene Iver, am moving to an eyelet-free inlet I’ve had my eye on since the Ides of March. Don’t try to contact me.

  1. Ha! and Ack! There is nothing quite like sitting in the ER and having to answer questions while you ache or ooze. Fun and curious piece!

  2. snicker . . . loved your take on it.

  3. You realize there’s a reason why they say ” Don’t poke your eye out ” right?? :P

  4. Eye don’t *see* what’s so funny.

    Eye do ;) Pleasantly unexpected…

  5. Hilarious!Sewing eyelets!Oh my!Loved the “clarion call” at the end & your P.S was impeccable-no,I won’t try to contact Irene Iver;-)Am still ROFL Linda-who is going to pick me up now?Eye blame you for this catastrophe!

  6. Eye eye eye that was delightful…and of course there shall be many more puns I’m sure :-) Though secretly freaked as I can’t even sit next to a table corner thinking I will be poked in the eye. :-(

    • Hahah! Icey what you mean about the poking of the eye fear. I never ran with sticks for just that reason when I was a kid and I still don’t for that matter! Thanks for coming by Ramblings!!

  7. Ouch! This really hurts, I can feel it.

  8. Ooo! I cringed >__< Great piece!

  9. Aye, that must’ve been painful. :P

  10. Now whenever I see some lovely eyelet I’m going to think of Irene and that needle in her eye!! LOL!! Linda, you’re amazing!!

    • Ahahaha! Irene and that needle in her eye! I’m going to try to work that sentence into every conversation I have today too! I sure hope I end up having a conversation with somebody today so I can work in all these funny phrases — I’m going to have to keep my eye open for the mailman! :D

  11. Yesterday I had an entire conversation with my 17-year-old with neither of us maintaning eye contact and no words more than two syllables. So, I know how difficult this was to write, lol. Excellent use of the prompt.

    • LOL Lance!! I seem to remember a few conversations with my kids when they were that age! I remember there for awhile, when my son was a teenager, the ONLY thing I could talk to him about was the Simpsons!! And I don’t think we ever used more than one or two words each. Ha! Memories!

  12. Yow!
I adore the bit in the picture, Linda.

  13. Cobbie's World

Tight! Silly! Brilliant, as usual! If your writing was merely funny, it would still be good. However, there is always such depth of meaning to your humour. You are in a league of your own when it comes to this style of writing.

  14. Aye aye Captian, full speed ahead. I’ll watch for those icebergs, I promise! Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle…oh, ok, I need to stop now.

    Hilarious! :)

  15. Here’s someone taking the “it is easier to pass through the eye of a needle”: challenge a little to literally.

  16. Irene I avow eyelet free islets are ideally found somewhere warm.

  17. You’d think Irene would have been able to sew her own back on after all that…

  18. Oh no! What a horrible thought! Ha! :)

  19. Ow! I do get your point about the inlet, though.

Only you could make an eye-patch look good! Fantastic talents…Skip.
